Updates on the Kiddos

Karyn lost her 5th tooth today while eating an orange. It actually stuck in the orange, just like her Aunt Brit  with the cantaloupe! She wrote on the envelope for the tooth fairy that she loves her and would like a gold dollar. Hahaha. I love her so much!

Karyn has moved up in gymnastics already. The teacher said that Karyn has an awareness of her body and what she is capable of doing more than most girls her age. Her teacher said she will ask "What is the technique?" The teacher will show her and Karyn will do it. I guess a lot of girls will take weeks to do what Karyn can do in one night. I am so happy for her. Karyn loves it and we can tell is very pleased with her own abilities. She was doing push ups and sit ups during FHE tonight to help strengthen her body. Hahaha, I love it! She is wonderful.

Evelyn had her first violin recital on Saturday and did great! She enjoys playing the violin and works hard for the 5 minutes she practices :) We are working on her endurance! She loves to show Brian her accomplishments and is very excited to start using the bow.

Evelyn loves playing make believe and is very good at it. Often, when all the kids are playing, it is Evelyn who is directing and telling everyone what to say...and everyone follows! This is with Karyn and her friends! Very cute and funny. She will also direct Brian and I in what to say...and we have to say it perfectly. She is very patient with us and will correct us if we don't say it right. She is amazing.

Ewan has had an explosion of vocabulary this last few weeks. He is jabbering ALL the time and it actually sounds like he is saying something or that what he is saying should be real words. He probably is really speaking, we just don't understand everything quite yet. He has mastered "NO" and Karny (Karyn). He will say Gammy, Gamma, Tommy, guk(cup), mow(more), and other random words. The weird thing is, is that he will say a lot of words when he is listening to me talk to the girls. He will repeat words with such clarity that it is shocking, although he won't really use them later without hearing it again.

Ewan went to nursery for the first time this last Sunday. He only screamed for about 30 minutes and then was fine! I guess he was standing at the door where I had gone out and was knocking and crying there for a while. So sad.  They finally convinced him to go look at a truck. He loves my hair like Karyn did. Although, he will rub it in his ear (hahaha) and on his hand instead of on his lips like Karyn would. He gives some of the best hugs and kisses. He is such a lovie.

I love my kids so much. We are sooo blessed to have such great children. I love love love them!

Train Pictures

Denver Station stop. We got out, used restrooms, washed our hands really well and got some fresh air.

Hi!

I love this picture. Ewan sat with his arm around Evelyn in the observation car.

Through the tunnel! We bought prizes for the kids to give to them throughout the trip. The tunnel prizes were glow in the dark bracelets and spinning light wand things. They loved it!

Sleeping on the train...

Picture Overload!

Okay, so I finally downloaded all the pictures from my phone. Are you ready for picture overload?

slaughter

Slaughter

We just witnessed the slaughtering of the cows in our backyard. Okay, we did not witness everything, but enough. We heard gun shots and looked out our back window to see the black steers lying on the ground twitching. It was shocking. I have seen this before. I worked in a meat plant for over a year...it's just that you expect it there. And, our girls saw.

Karyn's response...oh, poor cow. Evelyn's response...good! Now he can eat the cow! Although, Evelyn looked like she was trying not to cry and started acting very hyper. Then, she asked if we could get a cow and kill it for meat. She had crazy eyes. I think she was a bit in shock and I was worried about her. It made me want to cry.

So, now our blinds are closed after explaining that the guy was going to bleed the cows and rip the skin off. I don't think it is a bad thing to watch, it was just shocking and we weren't quite prepared. I would have explained more to my kids. Wish we could have had a warning...something. And, why couldn't they have done it closer to their house, instead of right by ours. Maybe pulling all the weeds back there was not a good idea. Anyway....I will post a picture.

tiny melons...barely A

Shocking

"The sparks were cool but it scared me and it doesn't smell very good. Karyn will be very sad that this (the scissors) is broken."

Evelyn and I were cutting out coupons. All of a sudden I see sparks and realize she has inserted the scissors into the outlet. She said she was not hurt at all...no shocks or anything, but she was pretty scared. She is also pretty concerned about the outlet. She asked a few times if it could be replaced. Poor girl :(

Very Hilarious, I Don't Like It

Evelyn was listening to the neighbor boy tell jokes. He tells jokes every morning before school...often the same ones. In reply to one of his jokes, Evelyn said "That is hilarious. I don't like it."

Forgiveness

Last night Karyn was having a rough night. We had already asked her to brush her teeth numerous times (She is very good at stalling.) She was spinning on a chair and bumped her head. Feeling very sad and hurt she wanted to talk about it, possibly another stalling technique. She was not given very long to talk and her feeling were hurt. While tucking her in bed she was sharing her feeling about the whole incident. I apologized for not making her go to be earlier. She replied "Thank you, Mom.I forgive you."

Mind Reading

Evelyn told me the other day with a lot of excitement "I can read my mind!"

Today, I sighed when trying to think of dinner plans. Evelyn heard me and said "What should we have for dinner?" She can read my mind!

Evelyn has a scratch on her leg from her "thinger nail." I do feel bad that she has a scratch, but I have to smile every time I hear her talk about her thinger nails.

Michigan

We arrived after a crazy trip on the train!!! I would ride the train again, but not for a while. Our train arrived 6 hours late into Chicago. They were very nice and helped us on the train. Chicago was an entirely different experience. I ended up uncontrollably sobbing in the station after the people there were not helpful at all.

Because the train was 6 hours late we missed the last train going to MI that night. They offered to pay for a hotel after which they would pick us up the next day at 11 am and let us wait at the station until 4 pm when our train would leave. They refused to help us get there earlier...even just 30 minutes earlier, to catch an earlier train. The thought of waiting in the train station for more than 4 hours was unbearable. I was tired. The kids were tired. They told me my options were to get a refund for our trip from Chicago to MI and take the bus or stay the night and wait for the train the next day (we would not get to our destination until midnight the following day).

I think they were tired of dealing with me. The manager told me I was too late for the shuttle to the hotel, that I had no choice but to get a refund and take a cab to the bus station. This is the point at which I broke down. I was crying uncontrollably while the red cap helped us to a cab with our bags. We got outside and there was the shuttle bus, waiting to go to the hotel...he had lied to us. It was too late for us anyway, we got the refund.

The cab took us to the bus station...scary place at 1 in the morning, especially with three kids. I will post pictures of the girls sleeping on the hard tiled floor waiting for the bus. The bus ride was great. We arrived at 7:30 am into Lansing, MI. My Dad and Mom met us at the bus station with hugs and smiles...just what we needed after a somewhat traumatizing experience.

We had a great time at Mari's open house Luau. A lot of people came and the food was great, as always. It was fun to see people I have met in the past and fun to meet new people. My family is so great and everyone always has great things to say about them. It was a nice and relaxing week and I got to start and finish a couple books! I was spoiled!

Being away from Brian for so long was extremely hard. I love him so much. I can't believe how perfect he is for me. I could not even hope for a better husband. He is amazing and it was so nice to be together again when he arrived on Saturday. We went to the beach in Muskegeon. It was beautiful. We were there until the sunset and got to spend a little extra time in the parking lot waiting for someone to help us charge a dead battery.

This was the perfect visit, from games to great food (including a Turkey dinner with all the fixin's) and of course, with wonderful people. Thanks to my family!

Puke Flight

Our trip to Michigan was fast and fun. The girls wanted to go back the next day after arriving home. Our trip home was full of adventure and surprises! To start, our plane was delayed. This ended up being quite fortuitous as Evelyn had a screaming headache (she was literally screaming for about 10 minutes) followed by an emptying of her stomach. She soaked herself and my lap with puke...poor girl. Had our plane been on time, we would have been on the plane with no options...vienna sausages and all. As it was, we purchased a shirt for Evelyn that went past her knees and I rinsed and bagged her clothes. I found a family bathroom where I could lock the door to strip down and rinse of my clothes (the airport doesn't sell pants). For some reason the door didn't lock, which I did not know until an airport worker guy openned it up while I was satnding there without pants on. He kindly shut the door and let me finish rinsing my pants. I really didn't do a great job rinsing, worried that some other person might walk in on me any second. I smelled of puke the rest of the trip home, which did not help my nausea in the least bit. All in all, we were very blessed to be at the airport when this happened. Evelyn threw up one more time, but we were prepared with a bag. She slept the rest of the way home, waking only to switch planes and get to our car.

Because our plane was delayed they told us we might miss our connecting flight, which was the last one into SLC that night. We were very blessed when they decided to hold the plane for us. We were running through the airport...it felt like what you would see in the movies. Brian was holding Ewan and had Karyn's backpack on. I was holding Evelyn and Karyn was running along with us. She was a very good sport! We made it on the plane and ended up having to wait for our luggage. Everything went well. The kids were great all the way home. We got home at about midnight. The kids went right to bed. After cleaning the puke off, Brian and I slept like logs.

I love being with my family. I love being home.

Tying Shoes

Karyn tied her shoes all by herself for the first time today. She has tied them in the past with a little assistance, but today it was all her! I can't believe how fast she is growing.

Today, Brian and I were talking about things being laminated. Karyn asked why we should not dominate...I didn't understand what she was talking about until she pointed at the laminated thing. Hahaha.

Yes!

I succeeded in being reasonable in the middle of the night!!! Yay!!! I got up, took care of Ewan, put him in HIS bed and went back to MY bed....so nice!

We took Brian to the airport today. He is going to CO for Molly's funeral. I miss him!

We are expecting our 4th child. This kind of took us by surprise. We were trying to prevent...but obviously were not as careful as we have been for the past year. We are excited, but I still am not quite sure how to feel. I almost feel like it is not really happening...like I need to take another pregnancy test or something. We are due in March, so we have quite a while. We are pretty sure this is a Steamboat Springs baby...yep!

Blessings: We have been soooo blessed recently with jobs from RISE. We currently do not have a placement, but have had many opportunities to work this past month. BLESSINGS!

Vangs

Karyn likes vangs (bangs) she told me this morning while doing her hair.

Sharing the Bed with the 1 Year Old...Not Worth It

I am never able to think clearly in the middle of the night. Ewan wakes up at 3 am, my muddled mind says "Bring him to bed with you...he will sleep and you can cuddle with him." It never works like that. Why does my mind deceive me like that?...so I can get less sleep? Or, maybe I am still dreaming. I would love to snuggle for a bit, then have the sleep fairies put him back to bed...but that would still be dreaming. In all reality, I need my mind to be reasonable and know that, yes, I might be up for 20 minutes but 20 minutes is much better than 3-4 more hours of very restless sleep. Please mind....be reasonable.

Worth It

I have decided I really need to do things that will be worth it....not just for the moment, but for the long run. I do a lot of things that really don't mean a lot. The purpose of this blog for me, is to take a look at my life and change it. Change it for the better. Make better use of my time. Make every moment count.

I love my family. I want to be the best Mom, Wife, Daughter, Sister, Aunt that I can be and I know that I will be able to do that if I can utilize my time wisely. That sounds really corny...anyway. I think by recording my daily life and my interactions I will be able to step out of the box....I hope.

So many things have been happening lately that have already altered my life and made me appreciate it more. My dear friend Karen Turner died in a car accident last month. She is Kaitlyn's (our foster daughter) mother. Life can change so quickly.

Last week our beautiful neice passed away after a few short hours here on earth. Her impact has been huge. It is amazing how much a person can inspire and change so many people in such a short amount of time...and all without any words. Thank you Molly. We love and miss you dearly.
